Google Social Search combines the power of social networking with search results

Google is known for its experiments with new features aiming for enhancement of user experience while adding value proposition to the use of the Internet. It has added yet another innovative search program, “Google Social Search” to its wide range of online products, which combines the power of social networking with search results.

With this new search, you can easily find relevant blogs, reviews and other public content from your social circle. You just need to sign in to Google and do a search. If there’s relevant web content written by people in your social circle, it will automatically show up at the bottom of your search results under a section called “Results from people in your social circle.” Not only this, but you can see even more social content by clicking on the “Show options” link at the top of the results page and then on the “Social” link.

If someone you don’t know also shows up in your social search results, it’s likely that they’re connected to someone you know. It also includes results from public connections of your immediate social circle, since it is quite likely that you know them as well. For instance, if you are following someone on Twitter, and that person is following five other people, those five other people will also be included in your social circle.

Your social circle would include your Gmail chat friends, Gmail contacts friends, family and co-worker groups, and people you’re publicly connected with on some popular social sites such as Twitter, Friendfeed, etc.

If you want to improve social search results, you need to add more and more people to your friend list and expand your social circle. The more friends and acquaintances you have, the more results are likely to be shown. The whole idea is to harness the benefits of social networking while maximizing user experience on the web.

With social media networking becoming the in-thing in today’s online marketplace, it is being increasingly used as a tool to foster the process of search engine optimisation. Google Social Search, therefore, comes as a boon for optimisers who are constantly on the lookout for new ways to keep their website on top of search engine rankings.
